What a mess!

Can you say boneheads??? They just started building our house and haven't stopped making mistakes already. First, we asked the and paid to have the basement rough-in moved. Do you think they moved it??? No! When we asked abou it they changed it but never told us that it was taken care of. THEN...they poured our foundation and fogot to relocate one of the windows we asked them to move. Arghhhhhhhh...this is only the beginning...lets see how the rest goes. I am not expecting things to change... stay tuned!

Nightmare

Total Nightmare. First while picking the item that I wanted in my house the person at the office did not know the price of the upgrades or gave me the wrong information. I moved in to my home in October 2004. At the framing inspection I had noticed that my cement basement floor was all (wavy) and put the Item to be fixed. Once I moved in 4 months later Ashcroft had not fixed the problem, my private house inspector told me that in his 20 years experience he had never seen anything this bad. Once I moved in my Dream home I found out that there was MOULD in my basement which Ashcroft knew about but failed to tell me. Once they decided to fix it, I had to tell the workers how to do it, and they used my washing machine as a ladder and dented the lid. Ah, and the tool of choice to clean your house after they come to do some repairs is a broom from the dollar store (I think by now they can afford a shop vac). There were bulkheads added in stupid places without any attempt to blend them into the walls, my fireplace in my living room is suppose to be the focus of the house, yet I have this big bulkheads coming across on that wall, total disaster. I had to make a complaint to the BBB for Ascroft to fix some outstanding items in my house. The vents to my 2 bathrooms upstairs were not connected to the furnaise. The had put "carpet" on my wall (going up the stairs) when asked what was underneath they assured my it was just drywall, once I removed it, I noticed that the wall was uneven, and to hide the fact that the drywall did not meet, they put this lovely carpet. My closet doors do not close properly even after getting them fixed twice. Each spring I get a new crack in my foundation, the first was within my 2 yrs therefore Aschcroft fixed it, the other two I had to pay for it. Don't count on Tarion, unless your house is falling down they won't help you. Once the contractor fixed the foundation I called Ashcroft to come a replace the insualtion, tar paper and vapour barrier, to my suprise they have replced the black Tar paper with a black garbage bag!!!!(unless there is some type of tar paper made of plastic)My Landscape in the backward goes down toward the house, but Aschcroft refused to fix it. I wrote a letter to the Owner Mr. David Choo, nobody even acknowledge that they had received the letter. Don't get me wrong, the staff at Ashcroft are very friendly and will make you believe almost anything they say. But I don't believe they have the proper training to build house except for a few that I have meet. Overall I had to take more than 3 weeks off to accommodate Aschcroft to come fix things in my new house. The list could go on, but I think you get the point, DO NOT BUY from this builder

Purchased a home from the builder in Oak Ridge Gate. We are pleased with the quality. We found them to be extremely courteous and informative in all our dealings with the builder and their subcontractors. Problems were addressed in a timely manner and after sales service was great. They have an individual on-site who manages after sales service and he was great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this builder to anyone interested in a new home.

The thermostats fail to respond to comfort settings. Despite the stuffing in ill fitting air-conditioners during the cold months we were still obliged to use auxiliary heat provided by large portable devices. Numerous requests (spoken and written) for proper heating brought no remedy. We reluctantly endured the lack of a garbage-chute and the resultant use of garbage-trolleys (and others) on the two elevators. (There is no "Service"elevator). However, we were dismayed to find that the management is not exclusively for us as residents but now also provides "Sales and Service" for other buildings as well. We even have, on one end of our building, a four-story billboard advertising the new Seniors Residence, and prospects are directed to phone our busy Receptionist when making inquiries. Some of the entertainments are as much for promoting new buildings as for the benefit of those paying the considerable cost of accommodation. Residents still do not know what impact the tunnel, now under construction, will have on their privacy and security. The astonishing request for new Zoning to permit a 12-Story and 8-Story building is cause for great concern when so much auto traffic has to exit onto the blind curves of the Drive, and two-way bus route. For us it has been a devastating disappointment after the expectations aroused by brochures and Sales talk.

The builder built the wrong house and continued to build the wrong house for three months despite calls, faxes, letters and in person contact. They were then three months late in closing with little or no contact. The house will be 5 years old in March 2006 and is still not complete. All efforts, including letters, meetings, faxes, phone calls, MLA contact, MP contact, Tarion and tears have failed to get Ashcroft to complete the PDI, let alone any first or second year issues. At this time, I have three pages of outstanding items ranging from windows that do not close (in Ottawa winters) to heating that does not reach the bedrooms to missing taps and rooms not painted. The Builder publicly stated that he would complete my home to Building Code and Building Standards in January 2004 (before 200 people, city and provincial officials and even a member of the press). Every month or so, I call the latest Ashcroft employee (I have had 11 different people handle my file), explain the problems all over again, and wait. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this builder to my worst ennemy.

Horrible experience! Many serious problems as well as many "cosmetic" issues in our new home. Totally unresponsive builder. Many other Ashcroft customers are living similar challenges. In addition, Ashcroft's plans for this community/development change constantly. It is our opinion that this builder should be avoided.

They delayed the house a total of 134 days, with the second delay having 13 days' notice. No apology, no offer of compensation. I snuck into the house during building and took pictures, which revealed dangerous wiring problems. The plumbers scorched a whole pile of things while installing the pipes, the framing is embarassing, there were bulkheads added in stupid places without any attempt to blend them into the walls, and all in all, I can't think of a single thing i saw that was done to my satisfaction. The "customer service" was even worse -- my staff was more professional when I was paying my way through school working fast food! There's not a single facet of the entire process that I'm happy with. To me, what turned it from a frustrating bit of nonsense into a complete disaster was Ashcroft's approach to "fixing" problems: ignoring them and, if possible, insulting the customer along the way. I'm well-known among my friends for trying to see both sides of every story and trying to see the good with the bad, but there's just nothing for me to work with when it comes to Ashcroft -- every single experience I've had with them has been negative.

A great experience until they got my money. There is no after sales service here. My house is over 4 years old and I'm still waiting for items to be fixed I put on my 30 day list. If you're lucky enough to get a hold of the one good person who works in after sales service, you might get most things fixed eventually, but don't hold your breath. My house had many problems. A nightmare for a first time home owner. The Ashcroft fix-it guys are good, but the contractors Ashcrofts used did poor-quality work.

The experience with Ashcroft Homes has left me feeling grossly violated. The workmanship is not even on par with a high school shop class. We did not get the cabinet space in the kitchen which appears on the blueprint and in the model home. The builder functions entirely on the "cheap" which includes subcontracting with (name edited) who also delivers an inferior product at a high price. Our treatment by the builder and his representatives has ranged from being ignored completely to being treated rudely and vulgarly. My bottomline opinion on this builder is: you will not get any thing near what you were told you would get and paid for. That is not to say my home is not worth it's price now, because I have but big bucks into bringing it up to the specifications of the builder.

Absolutely the worse builder in Ottawa. This builder has been reported on the news many times, never willing to comment. On closing day, we showed up with our truck .. that morning being told everything was ready for us .. only to find people still working on the house!!! Took another couple weeks to close. After sales, horrible .. didn't care at all! Owner of the business met with the citizens a couple times (name edited), only to sit there and wonder why people were so upset. Wouldn't surprise me if he closed up shop and tried to open another business, beware of the name!! Not sure who I blame more, the builder, ONHWP or the city for letting this take place. Check out the ONHWP web site, this builder hardly has any black marks?? Doesn?t' make sense! Took 3 years to obtain occupancy permit, what a mess! Moved out of the subdivision as builder kept changing plans, turned out to be nothing we were promised the subdivision would be. Didn't want to take chances on what was going to be built next, so we moved. Think twice about this builder .. better yet, don't even consider.

While many have had issues with this builder, especially with respect to after sales service, we had a good experience. Our home is well built (according to an independant building inspector) and we love the community (Central Park). Our after sales service was slow and frustrating, but from talking to friends who've bought new from other builders, this is unfortunately more the rule than the exception.

My (small) townhouse will be 4 years old on March 7, 2005 and the Pre-Delivery Inspection faults have not been fixed!!! I can only hope that the house is completed sometime before I retire in 2032. While the house is sturdy, the entire inside is sub-standard. Heating and cooling vents lead nowhere, painting and trim work are not complete, water faucets are missing, incorrect floors plans were used to build interior walls, windows are not where they are supposed to be, etc..etc.. Once the money has changed hands, there is little anyone can do to get defaults fixed. The builder will not respond to phone, fax or written communications and has been known to have buyers physically removed from Ashcroft offices. My problems are not unique; indeed, they are systemic and a hallmark of Ashcroft's building and business practices. Although the location is excellent I would NEVER, EVER recommend this builder. One wonders how the City of Ottawa can continue to grant building permits to Ashcroft.
