Poor post sales service

Builder is forcing me to take them to court over improperly installed floor tiles. I had to have it fixed myself, and now need to pursue legal action to recover my money. Builder charged a lot premium based on our backing onto a park they are responsible for developing. It's been over 3 years, and the park hasn't been started.

Phoenix Homes- The new name in customer dissatisfaction

We moved into our house in November 2007. Looking at the rating page, it's clear to me that Phoenix Homes has always had the same customer service problems and probably always will. Our house was 3 weeks late, which doesn't seem too bad except for the fact that we found out the week before we were scheduled to move in. We had no place to live. It seems we would never have known if I didn't keep calling Phoenix to say "The house doesn't look close to being ready". While watching the building process, I felt like the professional. Things were not done properly or at all and so I would make my weekly call to Phoenix. Our house looked like a war zone on move-in day. It was so dirty, we couldn't do a proper PDI. It's hard to tell if something is in good shape if it's covered in dirt. It was also incomplete. Dealing with Phoenix Homes was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I don't know how a company can be in business when they treat their customers this way. The communication was extremely slow and unprofessional. Phoenix finally decided they had enough of me and stopped responding to my messages. Tarion Warranty finally stepped in and eventually paid us off for the outstanding issues because Phoenix was dead set against coming back to fix them. To add insult to injury, Phoenix Homes is now refusing to go ahead with the park they had planned for the community. The one they lied to us about when selling us the house! The City's legal department is now trying to make them put in the park. I know from experience though, that Phoenix will tell everyone where to go. Overall, we love our community and even our home. If someone ever asked me about buying from Phoenix Homes? My answer: Run while you can!

Do not by phoenix

Took a long time and numerous emails to rectify problems, the warranty which was mandatory does not cover anything that is not considered load bearing, then what is the sense of having a warranty. This should be looked at in depth, Canadian homeowners are getting screwed.

Phoenix homes, they shouldn't be in busines!

Never in a million year would I ever buy a new home again!! And specially from Phoenix! The absolute worst, most arrogant, ignorant costumer service in the planet! From the head of the company to the site foreman. They don't care. They took your money and the hell with you. Stay away from Phoenix homes! they suck!

Poor workmanship

An extremely arrogant company to deal with, the customer is not the reason they are in business. The quality of workmanship in finishing the house is very poor. The installation of exterior door and windows is very poor and should have been corrected before the possession date, instead it is being left to be fixed under the Tarion warranty program. The closing date was delayed by 5 months, and the house was by no means finished at the time of posession. Would we buy anothe house from this company? NO.

Although we did not experience lengthy delays on the closing of our Phoenix Home, our date was pushed back by the builder causing various inconveniences and additional costs to our family. Our pre delivery inspection was sceduled two days before we took possesion and the house was not yet complete. At the PDI we were given a Tarion information package which should have been provided in advance to give us a chance to review our rights and responsibilities. After taking possession of our home, we have faced many frustrations dealing with Phoenix. In my opinion, their after sales support is severely lacking. We are forced to initiate any communication with them and often wait up to a week just for a response. Contractors who arrive to perform work often have to return because they are not aware of the scale of the repairs required, or they begin the work and say they will return in the next few days and don't come back. Workers arrive with no prior notice, or outside of agreed upon appointments. We have occupied our home for 6months and still have items outstanding from the PDI. When Phoenix is reminded of Tarion deadlines, they try to dissuade us from filing any paperwork saying not to worry, the work will be done. Overall, my wife and I love the design of our home and look forward to customizing it to suit ourselves, however, this will involve quite a bit of work because the drywall, trim, painting and other finishing work was done very poorly. We would not recommend Phoenix to any of our friends (if we want them to stay our friends) and in the future we would not buy another Phoenix product.

the customer service from the management on down to the after purchase response lacks. It took over a year to have some of the items on our PDI rectified and still have some outstanding issues from our year-end list (which consisted of over 150 items - 13 pages in all) - our home was purchased in 2003. At this point because we are so fed up with the builder giving us the runaround (they blame the contractors & vice versa) that we have given up in dealing with them - it is much easier to pay for things to be done properly on our own.

On top of having many problems with my home, was constantly being told I did not by a custom home, I was made to feel the problems were my fault, that I was too picky as well once I went to Tarion (with legitimate warrantable items, Phoenix admittedly changed the way they were dealing with me....any items we were dealing with in an active spreadsheet type scenario, I was told now had to go on to the one year inspection....at the meeting with Tarion and Phoenix, the Phoenix represenative expressed that the reason they stopped working on my home was because they ran out of money...when work was done, house left in a mess which I was left to clean, except once when a cleaner was brought in when I pratically begged.....not pleased in my experience with at all.

Pros: - completed on time (constructed in 1998) - house is reasonably well built Cons: - problems I noticed and reported during construction were not followed up, resulting in major inconvenience after moving in. - construction did not follow plans shown in sales center.. - defective window took nearly 1 year to be replaced; after 5 separate visits by trades attempting to "fix" original window. - changes to house construction/layout never communicated to us. - two, 3 foot sections of heating duct missing - ensuite toilet leaked into kitchen ceiling when first used - ensuite jacuzzi not hooked up to electrical - ensuite jacuzzi leaked into kitchen ceiling first time it was operated - ensuite shower leaked into kitchen ceiling - main bathroom heating vent covered cabinet - kitchen cabinets installed over electrical outlet/phone outlet. (customer service questionned why this was a problem when I reported this issue!?) - trades failing to show up for appointments - trades showing up for appointments and leaving before work completed. No followup from customer support. I always had to call customer support to report result of appointments - inexperienced trades (I had to tell one to leave because he was making issue worse) - poor workmanship. (drywalling, finishing, trims, baseboards) - baseboards installed before hardwood! In my opinion, the construction project seemed to lack any followup/supervision to make sure the various trades completed their tasks properly. Basic things like bathroom fixtures leaking or not functioning should have been caught through basic quality controls. Customer service issues seem to be treated as an inconvenience to the builder instead of as an opportunity to provide a good product to their customers. Problems that appear to be costly to fix are ignored and/or avoided.

Home was nearly a year late. MANY problems found during the build which we had to fight to correct. Some parts of house (siding, bricks, painting, interior cleaning) still not completed on moving day. Problems found after move-in, including wrong stair railings, flooring, fireplace enclosure, lights, missing and plastered-over outlets, non-working light switches. It took up to a year to have problems fixed with lots of hair pulling. The sales staff were wonderful, the only pleasant part of this buying experience. Customer support was a terrible experience. We've had the house for nearly 2 years now, and floors are creaking.

Over 120 days late now and they haven't even dug a whole in the ground. And I bought over 15 months ago. I feel I've been mislead since day 1. I suggest reading this page www.pheonixhomes.ca

Similar to other comments - house over a year late, basement floor dug up day before closing due to inoperative drain (which we had informed them of months earlier), cleaning crew in the house during final inspection, 48 hour action items were outstandning for up to 2 years. Just happy not to have to deal with them as warranty period is up.

Still waiting for Phoenix to build my home. I bought almost a year ago and it was to be done this month. Not even a hole in the ground has been dug for a foundation. It appears to be about 6 months off the closing date at this time and who knows how much longer they'll push it then? I'm not getting any official notification of delays until I start asking questions. This doesn't look good. Also, I noticed that the price hasn't gone up since at least last November. They said that the prices would be going up soon when I bought. I think every builder does that to pressure you into buying sooner rather than later.

Phoenix homes is a nightmare. Unbelievable!!! We waited three extra months for a home that ended up taking 11 months to build. No service at all! They never took responsibility for any problems. We had a foundation, yes...a foundation poured too low, cinderblocks had to be added just to bring it to code. It took almost 14 months for the city and phoenix to fix it. So many more problems I would have to write a book on them. Stay away from this company. Phoenix homes are constructed poorly and use cheap material. Stay far away and tell your friends.

I cried when we did our final inspection!! We waited 2 years for our home to be ready, just to give them enough time to make our home a nice home; well, the venting wasn't even connected at our final walkthrough! We never had things properly corrected, because every time we called we got the run around; The sales staff were wonderful, I must admit, and this is why I bought my home, and only because of this! My husband had to twist my arm to make the move as I loved my home..but we did it; so now its a few years and we do love our location and home, but I must tell you that so much still was never corrected...I've quit trying....
