We were due to move in the house in November, this was delayed until February. Since we had a late closing date with our condo, I asked the builder if the house was ready for the February date. The builder assured me it was. You can imagine my surprise, when I found no counter tops. The builder had actually taken a Thornridge road sign and turned it upside down and nailed it to the sink. What a joke. In addition, there was a cigarette burn in my bathtub. The place was disgustingly dirty. The site manager informed me that cleaners would be coming. Trades were walking on our carpet with wet work boots. The site manager realizing I was upset, said she only had an hour to do the PDI and that we could put additional items on the 30 day. (BE VERY CAREFUL HERE! BUILDERS DO THIS TO MITIGATE THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES.) We moved in February and informed them that we were due to have a baby in August. You think that would be enough time to fix the difficiencies but you would be wrong. The builder had to be coaxed every step of the way. We were told that some things would have to be negotiated. The builder basically told us we would not be getting all the things we paid for. If this was any other business, they would be charged with fraud. I just finished conciallation and they will be a ruling in our favour but not for the major difficiency in the house. Thornridge changed the plan of our bathroom without our consent in a major and substantial way. The home warranty company may not deem this as warrantable, and we will have to take them to court. I know I am not the only one in this development to suffer. Finally, in preparation for a court case, I have contacted a lawyer and started tape recording all my conversations with the builder. (It is legal, I checked.) You would be surprised how a site super can change his mind when you say you have him on tape.
