FIRST VIEW HOMES = WORST NEW HOMES, RHYME FITS June 08, 2007 3:41 AM
First View Homes is tied for the worst rating of any Barrie builders on this website with a rating of less than 1 out of 10 and not one positive rating. You have to be pretty bad to accomplish this. This rating also of course puts them in the low end of the scale for all of Canada, let alone North America. On the other side of the coin you have builders like Grandview Homes that has a rating of nearly 8 out of 10 and only has one negative rating putting them as one of the better Barrie builders. They obviously do not want to be lumped in the same category as the worst builders in the city.

First view homes has failed to complete deficient items on all three home warranty claims and have forced Tarion conciliation inspections for 30 day, 1 year, and 2 year warranties. They have refused to complete the warranted work authorized by the new home warranty program on all three occasions and have forced four home warranty cash settlement offers so far.

They also attempted to cash settle on warranted work they did not have the common sense to do, to try to avoid a home warranty cash settlement claim. The builders attempt to do this to hide the true number of claims they have from being posted on Tarion's website. Tarion does not report these actions by the builders. This skews the true public record of the claim history the builder has. Prospective purchasers who use Tarion's website as a guide for choosing a builder may not be properly informed if the builder has paid homeowners directly. The builders purpose for doing this of course is to protect themselves from bad publicity that may affect sales. This is why this web site and others like it are valuable tools for home buyers.

Of course any credible builder would not put themselves in this position. We have purchased six new homes prior to this last fiasco and have never had to make even one claim for warranty let alone three. The few minor deficiencies we had with other builders were corrected either before occupancy or within a week of closing. First View would not even start repairs for nearly four months, regardless of the fact that they left dangerous health and safety building code violations to exist at occupancy. This is a very good indicator of how bad their homes are that they are consistently backed up this long making repairs. Of course with this builder you may be lucky if they show up at all because they did not even attempt to make any of our 2-Year warranty claim repairs that again included health and safety building code violations.
