We purchased a brand new home from Muirland Homes - I know your think WHO? We have had nothing but problems with this builder and we have not even moved in, but of course they have covered there ass in the contract. Basically I have to close the house no matter what or lose my $50 000 deposit. When you spend $450 000 on a home you expect some service. In a nut shell the builder forgot to pour the foundation for the interior garage door - the grade permitted, but they forgot to pour it. Second we had a sales lady yell, swear, scream & stomp her feet when we went into the sales office to inquire about the interior door. I, to my husbands surprise remained calm and walked out. Then we selected our upgrades about two months later we receive a call that they under charged us and that we owe them an extra $2000. So we wanted to take out $2000 worth of upgrades and they wouldn't let because they had already purchased the merchandise - so it becomes my problem that they cannot add? But due to all the items being itemized it does become my problem. Then they delayed the closing of our house. Then when we actually got to go into the house we noticed that there was no corners on the whole bottom floor. The builder had boxed out each corner and to run the heating ducts + there were bulkheads everywhere. Of course this was not in there original floor plan. But apparently they can do it - most builders run the heating ducts in between the walls to give you space within the house. Yesterday, 9 days before closing we receive a call that they cannot put in the fireplace that the houses are to close together. First issue I have with this is that originally you had the option of placing the fireplace in the back of the house or having a corner unit. My husband wanted in the back of the house. The builder told us that we had to have it in the corner because they had already started the frame. Now they tell us we can't have one because the houses are to close together, if they had let us put it in the back of the house there would be no issues right now. Who gives these car jackers the permits to build homes? This is not the builders first phase, so why did they not see the problem with the fireplace before? My advice is really research your builder before you buy from them or you are going to end up with a crappy house - I might as while have taken my money and flushed it down the toilet. DO NOT BUY FROM MUIRLAND HOMES!
