Waterloo Region house starts up 17%
Thanks to a surge in townhouse construction, housing starts in Waterloo Region were up nearly 17 per cent in August compared to the same month last year. One hundred and fifteen townhouses were started in August in the region, including 57 in Cambridge and 43 in Kitchener, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. reported yesterday.

The number of new housing starts in Canada grew last month on an acceleration of condominium building in Ontario, according to the country's national housing agency. Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts moved up to 211,000 units in August, from 186,500 units in July.
